A third year girl student of Indian Statistical Institute allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan of her hostel room on Thursday evening at Baranagar campus of the institute.

The police said Ruma Garai, a student of statistics at the prestigious institute, was found hanging this evening.
Garai, who hailed from Murshidabad district in West Bengal, was staying in the girls' hostel.
