Mamata MPs under fire after ponzi boss Sen’s letter to CBI

Mamata Banerjee, the undisputed boss of the Trinamool Congress, is experiencing the first tremors of criticism inside her party, following Saradha chief Sudipto Sen’s leaked letter to the CBI, accusing two TMC MPs of fleecing him.

With the panchayat and Lok Sabha polls in mind, a large section of TMC MPs and a few MLAs urged Banerjee to sack the duo. Lakhs of rural middle and lower class depositors have been hit by Sen’s confidence tricks.

Eight senior MPs — all veterans of the TMC — have already expressed their fury to Banerjee’s second in command in the party, former railway minister Mukul Roy. They have also written to Banerjee.

But Banerjee wants to wait till reports from the police and the probe commission under former chief justice of Allahabad High Court Shyamal Sen come in.

Banerjee said at the state secretariat on Wednesday: “The government will set up a Rs. 500-crore relief fund for the small and medium investors of Saradha. Their names will be recommended by the commission of inquiry.”

But Sougata Roy, a senior Lok Sabha MP and former MoS, urban development, said, “Those whose name have come up should resign.” Another senior MP and former MoS, rural development, Sisir Adhikari, also demanded action against the tainted ones.

But both concluded their statements with the mandatory disclaimer that it was Banerjee who would take a final call at the right time.
