The process for the second phase of West Bengal Assembly polls from 50 constituencies in three districts will start on Wednesday when the Election Commission issues a notification. The 50 constituencies fall mainly in Murshidabad, Nadia and Birbhum , which will go to polls on April 23.

The last date for filing nomination papers is April 6. The scrutiny of the nominations will be held April 7 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be April 9. The Murshidabad district with 22 Assembly constituencies is considered a Congress citadel. The Left Front has a few pockets in the district.
Nadia with 17 Assembly constituencies has a strong presence of the Left Front as well as Trinamool Congress, with a few pockets of Congress. The SUCI-C has declared in some places it will field candidates against the Congress.
