“This is an extraordinary event. Science in India has been shaping its future. Our focal theme for the 100th science congress is, therefore, science for shaping the future of India,” minister for science and technology Jaipal Reddy said.

“A new element of innovation has been added to the policy to ensure that focus is on faster, sustainable and inclusive development,”Reddy said.

Scientists, including Nobel laureates from across the world, will be participating in the mega event that concludes on January 7.

The Indian Science Congress was first convened in the Asiatic Society in 1914 and Asutosh Mukerjee delivered the first presidential lecture. Since then, it has emerged as the parliament of Indian science.

The science congress has received wide support from the scientific community and patronage of the political will since its inception.
