In a twist to the Rizwanur Rehman murder case, the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday issued notice to former cricketer Snehasish Ganguly, the elder brother of Sourav Ganguly, for mediating between the City Commissioner of Police Prasun Mukherjee and Rizwanur’s father-in-law Ashok Todi, who is a well-known industrialist.

Justice Soumitra Pal directed the advocates for Rizwanur’s mother and brother to make Ganguly a party to their plea, seeking CBI probe to prosecute Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Gyanwant Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) Ajoy Kumar, Assistant Commissioner (Anti Rowdy Section) Sukanti Chakrabortry and sub-inspector (ARS) Krishnendu Das for hiring killers to murder Rehman at the instance of Todi.

Rehman, a 30-year old computer professional married Priyanka, Todi’s daughter, on August 18.

Rehman’s body was found by the rail tracks near the Bidhannagar railway station on September 28.

Citing media reports, advocate Kalyan Banerjee told the judge that Snehasish admitted that he had introduced Todi’s brother Pradip to Mukherjee to mediate in the problem arising out of marriage between Rehman and Priyanka.

Mukherjee said: “I don’t know Ashok Todi personally. I’ve never known him. I had not taken favours from him while contesting last year’s CAB presidential polls."
