To preserve Jorasanko Thakurbari, the ancestral house of Rabindranath Tagore in north Kolkata, the West Bengal government is planning to convert it into a museum.

While kicking off the bard’s week-long 151st birth anniversary celebrations here, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said they were mulling how to convert the mansion — where Tagore was born and spent most of his childhood — into a museum.

“This (Tagore’s house) should be converted into a museum to preserve our cultural heritage for the coming generations,” Banerjee said.
