The cookie may or may not crumble for the Left Front in the assembly polls but these colourful, sugar-coated cookies with CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress symbols are doing brisk business at one of the city’s most popular confectionery outlets. And if salespersons at the store are to be believed, Trinamool cookies are selling more than that of its counterpart.
Priced at R65 per piece, these cookies are finding takers among the young and old alike. The CPI(M) cookie is predictably red with the hammer and sickle embossed in white icing sugar. The Trinamool cookie uses the colour scheme of the party flag. “It is the novelty value of these cookies that is adding to their popularity. Earlier, we did similar cookies for IPL matches and they were a great hit among children,” said Pooja Kapoor, one of the directors of Kookie Jar.
Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee seems to be getting more creative by the day. After trying her hand at painting, she has picked up her pen to compose eight songs for an album titled Din Badaler Gaan, which was released on Thursday. Later, as the afternoon progressed, Tollywood hero Prosenjit Chatterjee, who was there for the launch, openly praised Didi.
Prosenjit launched the CD at Music World in the presence of Tollywood director Haranath Chakraborty. The score has been composed by singer Nachiketa. The album, released by Visual Audio and priced at R49, is expected to be a hit among music lovers. Ananya Pandit, business manager of Music World, said, “This is an apolitical initiative by Mamata Banerjee and Nachiketa’s songs are always a hit. The songs are very soothing and people will love it for the lyrics which are sure to strike the right chord in people’s hearts.”

Prosenjit said, “As a common man, all I want is welfare of the state. Whoever runs the government should do it for the good of the people. The reason why I am here to release the album is because I appreciate Didi’s creative bent of mind. When I was at her place, she made me hear songs from the serial Gaaner Opare. I loved the fact that a busy person like her has time to listen to music.”
