Two suspected Maoists were arrested with a large cache of arms and ammunition in West Bengal's Jhargram area on Saturday morning, police said.

Jhargram police district superintendent Pravin Tripathi said: “Two people have been arrested. We have also recovered fire arms and several rounds of bullets." Several others were detained and are being questioned, he said.

The operation was conducted in Ramchandrapur town by central paramilitary troops and state police personnel.
Joint forces have been deployed in the area since mid-2009 to flush out Maoist guerrillas who have been involved in various crimes in West Midnapore district. Jhargram police district was formed from a part of the West Midnapore district to strengthen the police force.
