Woman commits suicide at Kolkata metro station, services hit

According to Metro officials, as soon as the Dum Dum-bound train reached the station, a young woman, whose identity is yet to be verified, jumped on to the tracks and died on the spot.

Metro railway services were disrupted after a woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train at Esplanade station on Saturday afternoon.

According to Metro officials, as soon as the Dum Dum-bound train reached the station, a young woman, whose identity is yet to be verified, jumped on to the tracks and died on the spot.

To retrieve the body, the authorities blocked power supply which led to delay in services.

Train services from Maidan to Central stations were stopped for over an hour while in other sections services were normal, officials said.

To check such incidents, Metro authorities have been monitoring CCTV footage of passengers and also posted RPF personnel along the platform.
