With a fresh announcement by civic agencies to revamp Chandni Chowk and other major areas in the Capital, do you feel such plans do not take convenience of the locals into account?
There has been one announcement after the other from the civic agencies. Popular areas like Chandni Chowk, Khan Market and Gole Market are under the radar for a revamp. Although the idea of refurbishing sounds nice, there are those who would forever want to be lost in the old-world charm of these areas. And while these restoration plans are underway, programs which can last up to years, is anyone bothered about the inconvenience that is caused to the local public? Route diversions, dusty roads, blocked sections and lack of signals almost always accompany the construction years. One understands that doing up a market is for the betterment of the locality, but what about all the hasstle that locals go through? Here’s what young Delhhites think.

I am just glad that different agencies think about revamps. We can always do with public space being bigger, better and cleaner.

Such revamp plans do not take the convenience of locals into account. The civic agencies need to be more sensitive towards concerns and safety of local commuters.

If you go by the past records, then yes, during revamps, there is no thought given to the discomfort caused to the local public. But with a fresh plan, there is always fresh hope.
