Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid al-Fitr is one of the most auspicious and holy festivals of Islam. It is marked as the month-long fasting (Roza) of Ramadan comes to an end. The ninth month in the Islamic Lunar Calendar is Ramadan, and the tenth is Shawwal - which means 'festival of breaking of the fast'. The first day of the Shawwal month is celebrated by Muslims as Eid-al-Fitr. Muslims sight the crescent Moon on the last day of Ramadan to welcome the month of Shawwal with Eid-ul-Fitr. The tradition of sighting the Moon is a practice of observing the crescent or new Moon to determine the start of the tenth Islamic month of Shawwal. The Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid, Mufti Mukarram Ahmad, told PTI that the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of the mosque had reached out to various locations and received reports that the moon had been sighted at multiple places. "On this occasion, we pray that brotherhood and harmony that has existed in the country for 75 years continues to prosper," he said.

Shawwal moon sighted in Bangladesh
The Shawwal crescent moon has been sighted in Bangladesh. The National Moon-Sighting Committee of Bangladesh made the announcement after a meeting on Friday evening, according to religious affairs ministry officials.
Along with India, Bangladesh will also mark Eid-ul-Fitr tomorrow.

'Jumma-tul-Vida' celebrated across Kashmir with religious fervour
'Jumma-tul-Vida' prayers, marking the last Friday of Ramzan or Ramadan, were offered across Kashmir including at the historic Jamia Masjid with religious fervour, officials told PTI. A huge number of the faithful offered the prayers at the Hazratbal shrine, which houses the holy relic of Prophet Mohammad, on the banks of the Dal Lake.
Srinagar Police on Twitter said, "'Jumma-tul-Vida' prayers went peacefully and smoothly in all the mosques of Srinagar district including in Hazratbal Dargah and Jamia Masjid, Nowhatta. A huge congregation offered Friday afternoon prayers in all the mosques." (PTI)

Saudi, UAE and Qatar to celebrate Eid al-Fitr today
Saudi Arabia announced the date for Eid al-Fitr celebrations will begin today, Friday, April 21. "Tomorrow, Friday, is the first day of Eid al-Fitr for this year," the official Saudi Press Agency said on its Twitter account, citing a royal court statement. The country will observe a four-day holiday for Eid. United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar announced that the Eid holiday would start for them on Friday.
