Man arrested for attempting to steal toys in Connaught Place

Two theft cases were solved and two stolen mobile phones were recovered from the man, identified as Akilan. He was previously involved in eight theft cases registered at Connaught Place, RK Puram, Kalkaji, and Sarojini Nagar police stations, the police said.

An alleged member of the ‘thak-thak’ gang was arrested in Delhi for attempting to steal toys from a vendor
in central Delhi’s Connaught Place, the police said on Thursday.

Two theft cases were solved and two stolen mobile phones were recovered from the man, identified as Akilan. He was previously involved in eight theft cases registered at Connaught Place, RK Puram, Kalkaji, and Sarojini Nagar police stations, the police said.

The deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said that around 8pm on Tuesday, a police team was patrolling Gole Market to keep a watch on petty thefts and other street crimes.

“The team members were present on Shaheed Bhagat Singh Road when they heard somebody screaming for help. They responded and caught the man who was fleeing. A toy vendor, Rajneesh, alleged that the man had attempted to steal toys from his bags,” said deputy commissioner of police Verma.

DCP Verma said that Akilan revealed that he was a member of a ‘thak-thak’ gang, which is involved in stealing bags and mobile phones from cars after diverting the attention of drivers by knocking on the window glasses of their vehicles. The leader of the gang is one Dinakaran, said deputy commissioner of police Verma.
