Citing a fake facebook account being used to make communal comments in his name, urban development minister Mohammad Azam Khan on Thursday said a conspiracy had been hatched to sully his clean public image.
Khan questioned the state police’s style of functioning for having remained “indifferent” to his previous complaints in this regard. “This is a serious conspiracy and an attempt to tarnish my image,” said Khan while speaking to journalists after sending a letter to the director general of police, asking him to take expeditious action against those involved in the conspiracy.
In his letter to the state police chief, Khan has given a detailed account of how some communal comments were made and his picture posted on the fake account. A copy of the letter had been sent to union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and chief secretary Jawed Usmani, along with the reactions to the observations made in his name on the fake account, he said.
Khan said he had informed the senior superintendent of police, Lucknow, on October 18, 2012 about opening of the fake facebook account which was used to “spread hatred” against him. Yet, the police failed to take any action on the issue, said Khan. “If the police had acted on my complaint, no damage would have been done to my reputation,” said Khan.

{{/usCountry}}If the police failed to act on the letter of a senior minister what would happen to the complaints of the common man, he asked. The minister cited another instance when he received a threat call on his mobile from Sambhal. "Though police identified the caller, he was let off by the police station after he paid a heavy amount," the senior Samajwadi Party leader said.
Khan said he had been putting forth his views effectively in a transparent manner and had always taken along all the sections of society. But this was not acceptable to certain elements, he said.
Replying to a question, Khan said there was no possibility of involvement of any SP worker in the conspiracy. But the role of some powerful individuals or organisations could not be ruled out, he added.
