Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University V-C, others summoned in contempt case

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has summoned the vice-chancellor of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Prof Ranveer Chandra Sobti, registrar Prof RB Ram, representatives of the MHRD and other opposite parties in a contempt case.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has summoned the vice-chancellor of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Prof Ranveer Chandra Sobti, registrar Prof RB Ram, representatives of the MHRD and other opposite parties in a contempt case.

The court issued notice to them to appear in person before it on January 11 for further proceedings under the Contempt of Court’s Act, 1971.

Justice Rajan Roy passed the order on a contempt petition filed by one Venkatesh Singh alleging that the said opposite parties had not complied the writ court’s judgment.

The court, in its order, observed it is shocking that persons holding such office who have been vested with the obligation to manage a university, that too a central university, have acted in such blatant defiance of the judgment of the writ court.

Having taken such a step they now have to face the consequences, the court observed.
