Bachchan buys two acres of land in same village for school
Amitabh Bachhan has bought two acres of land afresh in Barabanki district to set-up a school named after his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
In an apparent damage control exercise, mega star Amitabh Bachhan has bought two acres of land afresh at the same village in Barabanki district, where he had "purchased" land to set-up a school named after his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Bachhan has bought another two acres of land in Daulatpur village, the sale deed of which was executed about six days back, Vinay Kumar Shukla, who holds power of attorney for him, told PTI in Lucknow on Friday.
Shukla said the decision to set up an inter-college was taken by Bachchan after villagers reminded the star he had promised not to break his relationship with them.
In reply to a question, he said that two acres of land was bought afresh as it was not possible to set up an inter-college on the land "bought" by the star earlier in the same village.
Shukla said that the institution would be named after Amitabh's father and noted Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Terming the controversy surrounding the star over "allotment" of a land in the village as a "product of the media", he claimed there was nothing illegal in the allotment by district officials during the then Samajwadi Party regime.
Shukla said that the foundation laying ceremony of the school would held at a date to be decided later.
