The court of the additional commissioner (administration) VS Prasad in Faizabad had on last Friday upheld cancellation of land transfer in Bachchan’s name in the Daulatpur village of Barbanki.

Bachchan had pleaded in his petition that in 1983 the land in question was transferred in his name in consolidation proceedings but his name could not be recorded in revenue records.

In 2006, Bachchan had moved an application for recording his name in the revenue records. This plea was dismissed by the then Barabanki district magistrate. The additional commissioner upheld the DM’s order. Bachchan appealed in the High Court against the additional commissioner’s order.

Bachchan had also pleaded that he was not given a hearing by the additional commissioner. This was a violation of the principles of natural justice, Bachchan had contended through his counsel. The prosecution on Thursday said no hearing was necessary in cases of forgery.

The land in question was meant to be allotted to landless labourers, said Additional Advocate General DK Arora.

Thereafter, Justice DP Singh reserved the order on the maintainability of the petition.
