CBSE stresses on online rating of school toilets

Now, the CBSE has made it mandatory for all its schools to get their toilets rated under National School Sanitation Initiative (NSSI) introduced by CBSE in association with Ministry of Human Resource and Development. However, the present scenario could be a deterrent in getting the good ratings as not just government schools but sanitation facilities in CBSE schools are equally poor.

Of the 1,500 CBSE schools in the state, only 112 schools have come forward for the online rating of their toilets. And of these, sanitation facilities in 75 school toilets were found to be grim that need immediate attention. It adheres below 33% of the established norms required for upkeep of toilets. DPS Ghaziabad is the only school in UP that got the top rating.

Notably, a school would receives rating in five colour categories corresponding to infrastructure, institutional responsibility, environmental sustainability, health and hygiene and paedagogics. Green stands for excellent, blue has scope of improvement, yellow can improve, black needs considerable improvement and red means needs immediate attention.
