The day long presentation was attended by many officers from the UP Power Corporation Ltd, the UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd, the UP Power Transmission Corporation Ltd and the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Defining a smart grid as an interconnected system of information and communication technology and control system used to interact with automation and business processes across entire power sector encompassing electricity generation, transmission, distribution and consumer, CEA engineers said the smart grid was the buzz today and the need of the hour.

It was pointed out that the idea of smart grid was to make the existing grid infrastructure as efficient and robust as possible, through the use of intelligence and automation, by encouraging active supply and demand side participation and by promoting innovative business practices and regulatory environments that provide incentives for efficient production, transmission, distribution and consumption of electricity across the entire value chain.
