In yet another crime against women, the chopped body of an unidentified woman, aged between 25-30 years, was found in a sack thrown on the roadside below Shaheed Path near Chiraiyabagh village in PGI area on Monday morning.
The police suspected that the assailants disposed of the body after killing the woman somewhere else in a bid to conceal the crime. The assailants’ modus operandi also suggested that the murder was a result of hate and vengeance.
“Initially, a pair of human legs were found when cops were patrolling the area around 7.30 am. After an hour-long search, we did not find the remaining body but some locals later informed us about the sack lying along side a canal at some distance,” said Santosh Tiwari, station officer (SO) of PGI police station.
He said the remaining body - chopped into many parts - was later found in the sack when the police reached there after getting the information.
The SO said spot examination suggested that the assailants must have come in some vehicle and they disposed of the body during the wee hours of Monday. The clothes on the body suggested that the woman belonged to a middle class family, he said.
He said, “We are making efforts to ascertain the identity of the deceased and have sent the body for post-mortem examination.” Police teams have been deployed to collect CCTV footages installed in localities near the crime scene to get clues about persons who disposed of the body there, he added.
He said the Chiraiyabagh village falls under Vrindavan housing scheme, but the stretch where the body has been found is a deserted one. He said the police so far had not found any eyewitness who saw the assailants dropping the sack there.
He said, “Other police stations of the city and adjoining districts have also been informed about the body, so that they could inform us in case they come across a case of any missing woman.”
In the past one week, this is the sixth incident of sensational crime against women. The other incidents included four murders, a robbery and rape of s student in a school.
