Talking to Hindustan Times on Monday, Sharma said he had already dispatched enough force to Banda and Chitrakoot to counter the menace of Shiv Kumar Patel alias Dadua and Ambika Patel alias Thokia. The two dreaded dacoits have thrown their lot behind Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) respectively. During last week visit the chief election commissioner N Gopalaswami had laid special emphasis on the problem and had directed the state police to ensure free and fair elections.

Sharma said the anti-Dadua operation had been going on in the region. The STF surveillance team has gathered information about the gang. The DGP had deployed IPS officer Amitabh Yash along with 30 personnel of STF and five companies of PAC in Chitrakoot to track down Dadua. Banda police have put pressure on Thokia whose mother Piyaria Devi has been contesting on RLD ticket from Naraini.

Sharma said he would visit Sonebhadra, which had been facing Naxalite menace. The commission had at its meeting in Delhi last month had directed the police of Chattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand to cooperate with the UP in controlling the Naxals during the election. The central government has summoned a meeting of Naxal affected states in Delhi on April 26. Sharma said anti-Naxal operation had been going on in Sonebhadra, Mirzapur and Chandauli.
