Relief commissioner L Venkateshwar Lu said on Monday that two persons were killed in floods in Bahraich and one each in Hardoi and Lakhimpur Khiri in wall collapse because of incessant rains.

The total toll so far due to rains was 156 in UP, he said.

He said the Sharda, Ghaghra and the Rapti were flowing above danger mark in Palia (Khiri), Ayodhya and Balrampur respectively.

While the Ganga was in spate in Kannauj, Kanpur, Allahabad, Ghazipur and Ballia, the Yamuna was flowing above danger mark in Saharanpur, Mathura, Agra, Etawah, Jalaun, and Allahabad. He said adeuqate arrangements were being made to protect the people.

Several parts of the state experienced light to moderate rain on Monday.

At Bareilly, it rained 53.8 mm, Lucknow 48.2 mm, Sultanpur 27.8 mm, Allahabad 22.2 mm and Najibabad 12.2 mm. Met department sources said rainfall activity would gain momentum from Wednesday. It has issued warning for heavy rain in some parts of the state.

Some brisk rain brought the much-needed relief from the prevailing humid conditions.

As a result, the day temperature dipped to 30.3 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal.

Minimum temperature remained at 25 degrees, three degrees below normal.
