A student of architecture in Amity University was allegedly attacked and molested by senior engineering students on the campus on Friday evening. The girl’s friend alleged that the incident took place in full public view and when one of the boys from her class tried to intervene, the engineering students mercilessly beat him up.
The police registered a case of molestation and voluntarily causing injury against unknown youths as the girl could not identify the accused. The incident took place during the rock band performance that marked the end of the annual cultural fest. The university official said that they had received a complaint and the matter would be investigated on Monday.
“The university remains closed on Saturday and Sunday. We are aware about the developments. We will try to collect evidence from the video footage of CCTV cameras installed on the campus. The university will form a committee too. Justice will be done with the victim and culprits will be severely punished. The university will not make any compromises,” a university official said.
This is not the first case when a girl was molested on the campus. In February 2013, a BA-LLB student of the university who happened to be SP MLA Pramod Gupta’s son had slapped his teacher Archana Shukla, 28, in class. The Chinhat police registered an FIR against the student after victim teacher met chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who was sympathetic towards her and told her not to worry.
