The train from Dhanbad in Jharkhand was heading to a National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) unit in Tanda town in Ambedkar Nagar, about 200 km from the same place.

"Three coaches of the train derailed near Tanda railway station, subsequently damaging the tracks. A team of officials has arrived to repair the damaged tracks," Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector Ram Asrey told reporters.

"We are yet to ascertain any specific reason behind the derailment. It would only be confirmed after the completion of an enquiry that would be conducted by senior railway officials," he said.
