In UP, three transgenders held after being accused of chopping off a man’s genitals

A police officer said the victim, a resident of Sarthauli village in Kanth area, was a part of a band that performed in marriage functions.

Three transgenders were arrested on Monday after a 22-year-old man accused them of chopping off his genitals in Kanth area of Shahajahnpur, police said.

Superintendent of police (SP), Shahjahanpur, S Channappa said the victim, a resident of Sarthauli village in Kanth area, was a part of a band that performed in marriage functions.

The name of the victim has been withheld to protect his identity.

“The complainant said he had gone to perform at a marriage function in Rajepur area of Farrukhabad on May 8 where transgenders Varsha, Ramu and Nahe befriended him and offered him tea laced with sedative,” the SP said.

“When the victim regained consciousness, he found that his genitals had been chopped off. The motive behind the act is yet to be established. Further investigations are on,” Channappa said. In his complaint, the victim alleged that he was held captive in a house and was treated by a quack. He claimed that he was tied in chains at the house but he managed to escape from there and reached his home.

“All the three accused were arrested from Farrukhabad on Monday,” the SP said.

The victim’s cousin said, “According to doctors, his condition is stable. They are checking him for infections and conducting other tests.”

Meanwhile, the Shahjahanpur SP has directed the station house officers of all police stations to identify the places inhabited by transgenders and ensure they are not involved in any illegal activity.
