The Chief Minister Mayawati on Tuesday banned hosting state receptions and dinners at Five Star hotels. While issuing strict austerity measures Mayawati also imposed blanket ban on distribution of calendars, diaries and congratulating message on any occasions including New Years.
The state dinner at Five star hotels would however be allowed in special condition with permission of the chief secretary.
With state financial condition taking bad shape Mayawati today directed all the departments to tighten the belts and immediately stop "unproductive expenditure".
Mayawati said that implementation of recommendations of Sixth Pay Commission had put massive fiscal burden on state exchequer thus no new guest houses by any department, public sector units and authorities should be constructed.
The Chief Minister has also told the ministers that the directives should be carried out strictly.
The government has stopped all building construction (offices/residences) at divisional and district headquarters except in the newly established divisions or districts. While allowing purchase of vehicles for deployment in security, the government has also stopped purchase of new vehicles. It has also directed the departments to reduce their existing fleet by five percent.
Moreover there would no longer be journeys in the name of training courses and seminars. The order says that officers should not be nominated except under unavoidable conditions for such programmes. While banning journey of personal staff during official tours, the officers have also been asked to minimize these visits. There would also be ban on publicity advertisements by all departments.

The government said moves were also afoot to mobilize more revenue to come out of tight situation. The chief secretary has been asked to regularly monitor the situation. The government also assailed the Congress-led UPA government for not providing Rs 80,000 crore special package to the state.
