Addressing an election rally in Rampur, Mayawati said that BSP government in Uttar Pradesh in all its tenures had not been able to spend as much money as that spent by the Congress for setting up memorials to its leaders, including Rajghat.

“The land on which the memorials have been set up in memory of the great men belonging to the ‘Raj Gharanas´ of the Congress is double of what has been spent on raising the memorials for Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram,” she said and alleged that as Bhimrao Ambedkar and not anyone from the Gandhi family had formulated the Constitution, the Congress has been searching for excuses to criticise the memorials to the dalit icon.

On Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s criticism of the memorials, she said that it was because of Ambedkar and the provisions incorporated by him in the Constitution that Yadav become the chief minister of the state.
