An 18-year-old was raped at gunpoint in the Basti district on Saturday night. A day earlier, a 17-year-old girl lost her left eye after she was stabbed for resisting a rape attempt in Kannauj.

The incidents come a week after a teenager was allegedly raped and murdered in Lakhimpur Khiri district. Her body was found hanging in a police station.

On Friday, Kuldeep Noniya (18) and a 17-year-old boy tried to overpower a girl in Bhudpurwa Mauja Dudwa Bujurg village in Kannauj district, when she was out to relieve herself. When the girl resisted, the duo attacked her with sticks and knives, said her family. She injured her head and eyes. The men escaped when she cried for help. The girl has been admitted to a hospital in Kanpur.

The parents said the girl had lost vision in the left eye. Delay in treatment was posing a risk to the other eye as well, they said.

Sub-inspector Shiv Shankar Singh and constable Fahruddin, who uses only one name, posted at the Gusahaiganj police station, were suspended on Sunday for dereliction of duty.
