The flood situation in Uttar Pradesh continues to be grim. On Saturday, the government pressed the army for relief and rescue operations at marooned villages near Peepiganj and Campierganj tehsil of Gorakhpur district.
District officials informed that one section of paramilitary forces was camping at Gorakha Recruitment Depot in the city to join the rescue operation on short notice.
The flood situation continues to be grim in Maharajganj and Gorakhpur districts. The floodwater of river Gaghra, Gorra and Gandak has inundated several villages in Deoria district. Situation in 50 flood affected villages in Kushinagar district too continues to be grim.
According to Revenue Department officials, 2,457 villages have been inundated in 20 districts and 122 persons have been reported dead since floods in river Ghaghra, Gandak, Rapti and Rohin ravaged the districts located in east UP and terai region.
Central Water Commission officials said that the water level of Ganga was rising in Varanasi, Allahabad, Mirzapur, Ghazipur and Ballia districts on Friday morning. Divisional Commissioner of Gorakhpur Division Rajiv Kumar informed that administration is well prepared to handle the calamity and 76 relief camps have been established in Gorakhpur, 34 in Maharajganj and 33 at Kushinagar district.
