At least four police officers and nine other influential people had links with operators of the high-profile, inter-state flesh trade racket busted recently in Gomti Nagar, the police probe has found. Sources said the woman who was arrested along with her male friend in this connection had full patronage of these cops.

Earlier, the racket was busted following a call to the modern police control room on Tuesday night. A prostitute herself called to complain about two brokers not paying her the promised sum of Rs. 20,000 per day for her services. Cops arrested two persons, including the woman and her male friend Raja, and unearthed a larger inter-state nexus.

“The duo confessed during rigorous quizzing that at least four police officers of sub-inspector and inspector level often visited their places and helped them in case of any police action. The cops helped the duo for different reasons,” a source in police department said, adding that the operators’ call records also substantiated their revelations.

As per the source, names and numbers of many white-collar, people—businessman, politicians and contractors who were regular clients—were found in the contact list of the two brokers; they would be called for interrogation and action would be initiated against them if evidence was found.
