Rs 437.79 cr for Kumbh Mela

A government order issued by the principal secretary, urban development, says the amount would be distributed among 22 departments.

The state government has given its approval for projects worth R437.79 crore for the Kumbh Mela to be held in Allahabad early next year. Out of the sanctioned amount, R254.64 crore was released on Sunday.

A government order (GO) issued by principal secretary, urban development Pravir Kumar, said the amount would be distributed among 22 departments. The break-up is: public works department (R59.05 crore), irrigation (R4.01 crore), UP Power Corporation Limited (R14.26 crore), the UP State Roadways Transport Corporation (R1.95 crore), UP Pradeshik Cooperative Dairy Federation-Parag (R3.60 crore), information department (R3 crore), Awas Vikas Parishad, Allahabad (R20 lakh) and tourism department (R1.29 crore). The forest department has been given R1.10 crore for the renovation of Minto Park in the Sangam area.

The horticulture department gets R18 lakh for producing saplings of ornamental plants and lawn development, the Ayurvedic unani medical department gets R48 lakh and the medical and health department R34.27 crore.

Approval has also been given for releasing R53.91 crore to Jal Nigam for ensuring drinking water and drainage projects. Plus, R4.14 crore goes to the Ganga Pollution Control unit for sewage treatment, R1.30 crore to Jhunsi Nagar Panchayat, R34 lakh to the Allahabad Development Authority for beautification work and road strengthening under the overbridge being constructed at Alopibagh and another R1.33 crore for repair and renovation work near Anand Bhawan.
