Railway officials said when the train was near Utretia on the city’s outskirts, the wheels of a coach heated up beyond the permissible limit, which triggered sparking. Consequently, the passengers raised alarm. As an emergency measure, the train was stopped at Charbagh station where the defected coach was replaced by another one.

“Excessive heating in the wheels was risky. We had to replace the coach at Charbagh station,” said Ashwini Srivastava, senior divisional commercial manager, Northern Railway.

The train left Charbagh station late night after a stoppage of at least four hours.
