Soon, get diplomas in chikankari, embroidery and bangle making

Soon, one would be able to pursue six-month certificate or one-year diploma courses on subjects like weaving Banarsi sarees, embroidery, chikankari and even making bangles, courtesy the UP Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Allahabad, which is set to start many such courses under its Community College.

Soon, one would be able to pursue six-month certificate or one-year diploma courses on subjects like weaving Banarsi sarees, embroidery, chikankari and even making bangles, courtesy the UP Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Allahabad, which is set to start many such courses under its Community College.

Addressing media persons here on Sunday, UPRTOU vice chancellor prof MP Dubey said the university would soon prepare a blueprint of the project and start the courses from this year itself.

Moreover, the courses would be run and managed by the industry people.

“Bangle makers of Firozabad, chikankari workers of Lucknow and weavers from Varanasi will be roped in to teach these courses. The university would design the course with these skilled man power to hone the skills of unskilled people,” the V-C said.

To facilitate students enrolling in these courses, the university has also decided not to have a fixed time schedule.

“The schedule would be modified as per the cinvenience of the students. The fee structure will be very nominal as the university will try to cater the need of unemployed youth who can earn their livelihood after completing one of these courses,” he said.

It is also set to start PhD admission from this year. The university has already drafted a new PhD ordinance as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and sent it to governor Ram Naik for approval. Vice chancellor prof MP Dubey said the university would start admission process for PhD programmes.

“The admission will be done through entrance test. The university will create a pool of teachers duly approved by the academic council and other statutory bodies. The selected students may get themselves enrolled under any of them. The university will facilitate students to seek help from a teacher of their respective center who could be from any degree college with a minimum of five years of teaching experience,” the vice chancellor told media.
