SP, Cong misleading Muslims, says Maya

With an eye on well-entrenched Muslim votes in Uttar Pradesh, CM Mayawati on Tuesday firmly ruled out possibility of an alliance with the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. She attacked the Opposition accusing it of spreading venom against the BSP.

Addressing newspersons, the BSP chief said a conspiracy had been hatched against the party by the Congress, the Samajwadi Party and their allies after the BJP’s “flopped rally” in Kanpur. “There is a political conspiracy to mislead the Muslims,” she said.

“Advani said something at the Kanpur rally which provided political fodder to the Congress and the SP,” she said, adding, “This is misleading and baseless”.

The BSP has never contested election in alliance with the BJP and there is no plan in future either, Mayawati said. The SP, she said, always helps the BJP on crucial issues.

She said the SP and the Congress are trying to stop Muslims from shifting to the BSP, as the community is opposed to the controversial Indo-US nuclear deal and are therefore, harping on a “BSP-BJP pact”.
