SP workers stage protest, court arrest in UP

Samajwadi Party workers today staged protest dharnas all over the state and courted arrest protesting against Uttar Pradesh government's misuse of public funds on memorials, dismal law and order and failure to provide relief to flood victims.

Samajwadi Party workers today staged protest dharnas all over the state and courted arrest protesting against Uttar Pradesh government's misuse of public funds on memorials, dismal law and order and failure to provide relief to flood victims.

A report reaching here from Mainpuri said that about 2,000 party workers led by MLA Sobhran Singh Yadav and district unit chief Manik Chand Yadav clashed with police over burning of effigy of Chief Minister Mayawati.

Police had to chase away the workers, who pelted stones at the police party, when prevented from burning the effigy at the Collectorate compound, reports said.

Some party workers also received injuries and had to be taken to the district hospital for first aid, reports said.

Led by party MPs and MLAs, and office bearers staged protests in Etawah, Hardoi, Gonda, Badaun, Varanasi, Agra, Sultanpur, Allahabd, Ghazipur, Faizabad, Kannauj, Etah Meerut among other places .

The protest dharna at all the district headquarters would also continue tomorrow.
