Swatantra Saksena of Indra Lok Colony, who was undergoing treatment at SGPGI, died late in the evening. His sample was sent to the lab for test on February 5 and the report came the same day.

“This patient had a history of travelling from Chennai to Lucknow. He was working with the Merchant Navy and had come to Lucknow on February 1,” said Dr SNS Yadav, chief medical officer, Lucknow.

Saksena had consulted a local doctor while going through a bout of cold and flu. On February 5, he suffered breathlessness and was admitted to the SGPGI, where he died of multiple organ failure around 4 pm, said the CMO.

Health officials said Saksena’s son, who had also tested positive for swine flu, was recovering. His family members had been given Tamiflu in proper doses, said Dr Yadav.

District ma gistrate Raj Shekhar asked the CMO to ensure proper survey of the family of the deceased, his friends and also people at his workplace and ask them to get their health check-up done.

Health teams will visit the house of the deceased on Friday to check the status of the family, neighbours and all those who were in close contact with the patient. The count of swine flu patients in the state is now 76, where cases have come from Saharanpur and Bareilly also.
