“It’s impossible for the enemies to escape from our armed forces. The training that a jawan of the Indian Army undergoes is one of the toughest in the world,” said Major Virendra Singh, training in-charge of 11 Gorkha Rifles Training centre in Lucknow.
The armed forces central command organised an interaction with local media persons so as to give them a feel of what army personnel go through every day.
During a training exercise, the Gorkha jawans neutralised ‘terrorists’ who attacked a shop and hid inside a house. In the next drill, Gorkha jawans stormed a bank where workers were taken hostage by terrorists. The jawans killed all the ‘terrorists’ with pin- point accuracy in shooting.
Training in-charge Major Virendra Singh said, “We give all kinds of training, which includes training for counter insurgency, border firing, war and battling the enemies without arms. We use advanced gadgets like real action marshal guns to mark the target before the attack. Not only that, jawans get up at 4 am and undergo physical drill for maintaining physical fitness. They have to practice rock climbing, rope climbing, hurdle crossing and running with load.”

Advanced weapons were displayed at the Surya Sports premises on Butchery ground. The weapons included main battle tanks T-90, machine guns, anti-tank laser guided machine guns, mortars, rocket launchers, pistols, grenade launchers, artillery, guns, light machine guns and Sarvatra bridging system through which a 75-metre-long bridge can be prepared in just over two hours.
Earlier in the morning, army officers along with other media persons paid tribute to martyrs at Smritika on Surya premises.
After that media were taken to the Puneet Dutt auditorium, where a film on the Indian Army was screened.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief of Staff, Central Command, Lieutenant General JK Sharma said the life of army jawans is of full of challenges.
“The Army is the pride of our country. The enemy wants to destroy the morale of the army by rumours using money and influence, but it’s up to the media to paint a positive picture of the sacrifices by Army jawans,” he said.
Major General Harsh Kakkar (retired) and Major General Sanjay Saran (retired) also presented their views about Army and media relationship.
