The UP Special Task Force (STF) and civil supplies department team sealed two fuel dispensers of a petrol pump, after they found remote operated chips in the dispensers.
Prakash Automobiles, near Jawahar Bhawan, was raided on Thursday evening. Officials recovered remote operated chips from two of its four dispensing units. “Two dispensing units were found fitted with cheat chips,” said Santosh Vikram Shahi, district supply officer (DSO).
Shahi said both the fuel dispensers were sealed. He said the other two petrol pumps, Pioneer and Anurag Automobiles that were sealed earlier, were allowed to operate the dispensing units in which chips were not found. “The ones from which the chips were recovered would remained sealed,” said Shahi, highlighting the latest development in the fuel scam.
Thursday’s raid has pushed up the total number of petrol pumps raided in the state capital so far to 24. Of these, only two petrol pumps, National Filling Centre and Agarwal Filling Centre in Jiamau, were found operating honestly. From all other petrol pumps, chips that are programmed to dispense less petrol to dupe the customers were recovered.
Eighteen petrol pumps were raided by UP’s Special Task Force (STF), three by oil companies and four by the district administration.
The STF and administrative officials began the crackdown on petrol pumps almost a week back. So far, the STF has arrested 26 people, including five petrol pump owners and nine pump managers, in the state capital. According to STF officials, probe has revealed that around 80% of the petrol pumps across UP have been using devices to cheat consumers and siphoning off an estimated Rs 200 crore per month.
