Special judge, jail court, Om Prakash Mishra (II) on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists at a special hearing carried out inside the district prison. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 1.30 lakh each on the three terrorists.
In the 64-page judgment, special judge Mishra held all three terrorists responsible for waging war against India. Mohammad Abid ‘Fateh’, Mirza Rashid Beg ‘Raja Kazaffi’ and Shafi-ur-Rahman ‘Yusuf’ were arrested in Lucknow on November 15, 2007, in a joint operation carried out by the special task force (STF) of Meerut and Ghaziabad. Cops had also recovered two AK-47 assault rifles, 60 live cartridges, 16 hand grenades, four kg RDX, large number of fake identity cards and a Santro car. An FIR was lodged against all three at the Gudamba police station here.
On June 30 this year, the special jail court had convicted the three terrorists and had fixed Thursday (July 14) for pronouncing the quantum of punishment. During trial of the case, which was conducted inside the prison, prosecutors had presented 13 eye witnesses.
According to government lawyers MK Singh and Pushpendra Singh, all three Pakistani terrorists had sneaked into India with an intention to set free several foreign terrorists lodged in various prisons all across the country.

STF sleuths got information from intelligence agencies about some Pakistani terrorists reaching Lucknow. Acting on tip off, joint teams of Meerut and Ghaziabad STF reached Lucknow on November 15, 2007 and positioned themselves near a flyover on Sitapur road here. At around 3.45 am, cops spotted a Santro car on Sitapur road. After a brief chase, the car collided against a wall and three terrorists were arrested after exchange of gunfire.
