Villagers lynch cow thief in Amroha

The villagers chased four thieves and caught one of them and beat him to death before the police could reach the spot.

Villagers lynched a cow thief in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh early on Tuesday morning even as three other thieves managed to escape after firing at the locals, injuring some of them.

The incident happened in Kalka Wali Dagrauli village in Hasanpur area of the district. According to police, Brahmapal and his wife woke up after hearing some noise. When they came out of the house, they saw four people trying to take away their cow in a vehicle.

They shouted for help and caught hold of one of the thieves. As villagers reached the spot and clashed with the thieves, they opened fire in a bid to escape, and injured six villagers.

The residents then chased the thieves and caught one of them and beat him to death before the police could reach the spot.

Amroha superintendent of police, Dr Shiva Simpi Chenappa said a case had been registered in this connection.
