19-yr-old dies after speeding truck hits vehicle in Thane, 1 hurt

The driver of the speeding truck lost control and hit the two-wheeler from behind and fled the spot

A 19-year-old man died after being hit by a speeding truck on the Thane-Nashik Highway Road at Bhiwandi on Thursday.

A case has been lodged against the truck driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicle Act. (HT FILE)

The deceased Ajay Waghmare, who was on his way to Thane for a job interview was riding pillion with his friend Dipak Jetnavre, 22.

The driver of the speeding truck lost control and hit the two-wheeler from behind and fled the spot.

“While crossing the road on their two-wheeler, a speeding truck came from behind and hit them,” a police officer from Kongaon police station said.

The officer said that the victims were rushed to the hospital. However, Waghmare was declared dead on arrival.

“Jetnavre, who suffered severe injuries, is under treatment. Investigations are on to nab the truck driver. We have identified the truck number and with the help of RTO officials, we will track him down,” the officer said.

A case has been lodged against the truck driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicle Act.
