Car crushes 40-year-old woman to death in Mumbai

A 40-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a Mercedes in Worli on Tuesday evening.

The woman, identified as Sarita Wagh, was walking near Sasmira College when the Mercedes hit her, eyewitness Abhijit Patil said.

“I was on the opposite side when I saw the woman being hit. I called out to the driver but he panicked and took a sudden reverse crushing the woman’s head following which he fled,” he said.

Patil further said that he, along with few other people rushed Wagh to the hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. The eyewitnesses then approached the Worli police and registered an FIR against the driver of the vehicle MH03CM5033.

The Worli police identified the driver as Pitchswami Tewar and registered a case against him.

“We are finding out whether the vehicle was registered under the driver’s name or was owned by someone else,” said Gajanan Desurkar, senior police inspector of Worli police station.

“The driver took the woman to the hospital and surrendered at the police station,” Desurkar said.
