The two discussed potential strategies to be adopted after the results of assembly polls in five states are announced on Saturday. Senior RSS leader Krishna Gopal attended the meeting held at Yashwant Bhavan. Shah left for Delhi immediately after the meeting, which started at 11.30 am. Though RSS office bearers were tight-lipped about the meeting, sources said the leaders discussed the assembly elections in five states.

“Amit and Joshi discussed the party prospects in five states, particularly Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP is expected to emerge as the single largest player. The RSS general secretary must have been informed about the possible chief ministerial candidates in UP, if the party is in a position to form the government,” said a source from the organisation.

The sources said the previously scheduled meeting at Nagpur was cancelled to avoid the media glare.

“Amitji was in Mumbai for a work-related matter. He thought of dropping by the RSS office as he heard Bhaiyyaji was there. It was an informal courtesy call by the BJP chief,” Pramod Bapat, RSS coordinator, Konkan, told HT.

According to sources, communication between the RSS and the BJP a day ahead of the results assumes significance in terms of the parties’ strategy post results.
