Anti-Corruption Bureau catches fewer officials taking bribes

The number of cases in which officials were caught taking bribe across the state till August 19 this year has dipped as compared to the same period in 2015

Latest statistics with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) have revealed that the number of cases in which officials were caught taking bribe across the state till August 19 this year, has dipped as compared to the same period in 2015.

Till August 19 this year, the number of trap cases (arrests made when a government servant or a private official is caught red-handed accepting bribe or a person taking it on their behalf) reported was 655 involving 827 accused, while it was 782 cases involving 1,013 during the same time in 2015.

“Even after regular awareness campaigns, the number of persons coming forward to report cases is still less. The cases in the city have increased when compared to the same period in the previous year,” said a senior ACB official.

The statistics revealed that Pune range has registered the most trap cases with 118 cases followed by Aurangabad (93), Nashik (92), Nagpur (85), Nanded (75), Amravati (74), Thane (73) and Mumbai (45).

ACB has registered most cases against revenue department (160 cases) followed by police (147), panchayat committee (71), education (40), electricity (36), municipal corporations (32) amongst others.
