A four-day-old girl was found abandoned in front of a bungalow in Vasai (West) on Sunday morning. The bungalow owner alerted the police, who admitted her to the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) hospital. A case has been registered against the mother.

Around 4.30am in the morning, Daisy Dabre who lives near Rojmari Chawl on Chulna Road heard the cries of the infant and alerted her husband, who informed the police. The cops got the child who had been plagued by mosquitoes and rats throughout the night.
“She miraculously survived the mosquitoes and rats,” said inspector Anil Patil of Manickpur police station. “We have admitted her to the civic hospital and have registered a case under Section 317 (abandonment of newborn child) of the Indian Penal Code against the unknown person. It could be a case of an unwanted pregnancy and we are checking all maternity clinics in the vicinity for recent deliveries of baby girls. We are also checking the CCTV footage to identify the culprit.”
The officer added, “After seeking permission from the Vasai court, we will put her in a child rescue home, from where she could be adopted.”
