After raiding four other call centres on Mira road on Saturday, the police found that the hard discs have been removed from many of the computers. The police have also learnt that after the raid on seven call centres last Tuesday, the employees and the manager of these four call centres had stopped coming to office.
Additional commissioner of police, Thane, M Hatote said, “We raided the four other call centres in Mira Road and while investigating, found many hard discs missing. We have made a list of the 150 employees, who used to work here and we will send them a notice .”
Hatote said, “We have found a new script too, in which the caller used to say they were calling from the United States Department of the Treasury. We have also found scripts, which are similar. We have gathered many information which are linked to the earlier call centre raids. The raid was conducted based on the tip-off of those who were arrested earlier. ”
The police have sealed the freshly-raided four call centres and are in the process of issuing notices to the employees.
Till now, the Thane police have raided more than dozen call centres in connection with the multi-million dollar rackets. The employee knew their role in the company, but worked because of the lure of money. The employee used to threatened American citizens by posing as IRS officer. While many fell for the trap, many did not. The call centre used to earn more than Rs1.5 crore a day and annually the amount goes beyond Rs300-400 crore.
