Travelling from Mumbai’s airport anytime soon? Brace for a bumpy ride and filthy nullahs.

Bandra, Andheri, Khar, Vile Parle and Santacruz residents will be the worst-affected this monsoon. Four of the 10 nullahs or storm water drains HT rated the lowest after an audit are in the western suburbs.

HT tested the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) monsoon preparedness on June 2, accompanied by a former civic chief, retired engineers and civic activists.

The panellists gave Bandra’s Behrampada nullah the lowest score – 1.4/10. The nullah was filled with garbage and swathes of filth. Sewage was directly discharged into it.

The worst work, this year, however, was at the Mithi river in the Bandra-Kurla Complex. Till June 4, the civic body had completed only 45% of the desilting work along the river’s western stretch. The BMC blamed late approvals from the standing committee for the delay.
