Kidney racket: Wife of accused to undergo medical test

The Powai police on Wednesday said they would be putting another woman, wife of an arrested accused, through a medical test to find out if she too sold her kidney to Bhaijendra Bisen, 42, who is alleged to be the kingpin of kidney transplant racket.

The seventh accused arrested in the case, Yusufsa Bismillasa Dhiwan, 45, a resident of Nadiad, Kheda district in Gujarat is the link between Bisen and the donor Shobha Thakur, 42, alias Rekhadevi Jaiswal, mentioned in the FIR. The Powai police admitted that they have received information that Dhiwan’s wife too has sold her kidney to Bisen.

Deputy commissioner of police, Vinayak Deshmukh, said, “We will put her through a medical test to find out if it is true.”

Dhiwan has told police that he comes from a poor family and was in dire need of money. He is a lorry driver and he too was willing to sell his kidney.

The Powai police said that they are presently checking all the documents to find out if there are any more illegal surgeries for organ transplant carried out by the Dr LH Hiranandani hospital. “We are checking all the documents on the past transplants carried out at the hospital. It will be a long procedure and will take time,” said a senior police official working on the case.
