Maharashtra extends registration deadline for 5-year LLB courses till June 30

Mumbai city news: Of the 14,559 candidates who took the common entrance test (CET) only 8,000 have registered themselves on the admission portal.

The Maharashtra government has decided to extend the deadline to register for the centralised admission process (CAP) for five-year LLB courses till June 30, as many aspirants are yet to register themselves.

According to an official from Directorate of Higher Education (DHE), of the 14,559 candidates who took the common entrance test (CET) only 8,000 have registered themselves on the admission portal. The registration process was to close at midnight on Tuesday, but was extended with the hope of getting more applications.

“With the deadline for CAP registrations being pushed ahead, we will issue a new schedule for admission,” said the official.

Last year, 6,000 out of 10,000 seats available for five-year LLB across the state were left vacant, as many students couldn’t secure their seats due to confusion and lack of awareness about CAP, which was employed for law courses for the first time in the state last year.

However, there’s another reason for low registration for the course. “Many students don’t want to pursue the five-year course as it demands much persistence,” said NG Mishra, principal, Lords Universal College of Law.
