A 22-year-old labourer was on Saturday was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a four-year-old girl in August 2016. The court also imposed a fine of ₹16,000 on the him.

The convict, Suresh Mukne, is a resident of Phulpada in Virar and had been lodged at Thane Central Jail since his arrest in August 2016.
Mukne had abducted the minor and took her to a dilapidated bungalow where he raped her, said additional public prosecutor Kadambini Khandagale. Mukne was arrested later the same day.
Rahul Bhosale, additional sessions judge, Vasai, ordered a compensation to be paid to the survivor under section 365 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
Bhosale also directed that a copy of the order be forwarded to the district collector of Palghar.
