Mega science projects on display from May 8

Vigyan Samagam – organised by the Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Science and Technology – will open at the Nehru Science Centre (NSC) in Worli on May 8.

Vigyan Samagam – organised by the Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Science and Technology – will open at the Nehru Science Centre (NSC) in Worli on May 8. It will be on display for two months each in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Delhi. The National Council of Science Museums will host a permanent exhibition in Delhi.

“Most mega science projects in India are funded with tax payer’s money, so we need to inform citizens of these projects,” said Shivaprasad Khened, director, NSC.

“The idea is to showcase Indian participation in international projects that will bring India into a level-playing field with developed countries,” said Arun Srivastava, secretary, atomic energy commission, and convener of Vigyan Samagam.

The seven collaborations are European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR), India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO), International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and Thirty Meter Telescope.
